Maungauika/North Head Historic Reserve

This Auckland historic walk on North Head explores our 20th century military defences against invasion. Take a self-guided walk through tunnels and many other military features on Maungauika [North Head], and watch one of three short informative films at the summit. Walk the loop tracks which explore the military defences protecting Auckland from feared Russian invasions, and discover dramatic views of the Hauraki Gulf. Maungauika has a rich Maori history and is one of the oldest volcanic cones in the Auckland area, dated to a series of eruptions over 50,000 years ago.
